More than 1,250 free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are now available to help people with no prescription coverage lower the cost of their medicine, announced United Way of Scott County Executive Director Barbara Timberlake. People with health insurance can also use the cards to lower the cost of medicine not covered by their medical insurance.

People with Internet access can print a card by visiting the website at www.FamilyWize.com as well as look up drug prices and the list of participating pharmacies. Discount cards also can be obtained from your township trustee, City Hall, the Children’s Health Clinic, Scott County Health Department, Kids Place, Scott County Community Clearinghouse, and many of the participating local pharmacies or by calling United Way of Scott County at 752-2586. They are also available at the discharge planning office at Scott Memorial Hospital, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m., and at several local physicians’ offices.

Most pharmacies in the United States accept these prescription drug discount cards.  They have no usage or age limits, income requirements or registration forms, and can be used immediately. Local participating pharmacies include Austin Pharmacy, CVS/Pharmacy, Hancock’s Drug Store, Medical Arts Pharmacy, Stewart’s Pharmacy and Wal-Mart Supercenter Pharmacy.

The FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are being distributed free of charge by United Way of Scott County, and more than 450 other United Way agencies and Alliance Partners in America’s Promise in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, as part of in-kind donation by Membership Services Corporation, located in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and its industry partners. Printing for two million prescription cards was donated by another Pennsylvania company, Independent Graphics of Pittston, Pennsylvania and shipping is being donated by Fedex Express.
